Lunch + Learn: The Art of Effective Listening
Ever find that a friend is talking to you about a problem, but you don’t quite know how they want you to react, or you feel the need to jump in and give them advice? Or maybe you catch yourself listening to respond, rather than just to listen. Surely we have all been on the other side and felt that we aren’t truly being listened to as well. This Lunch + Learn is an introduction to a 16 week class called Listening Exchange where participants learn and practice the benefits of deep listening skills. Receiving deep attention and understanding through quality listening exchanges is crucial for your mental and emotional wellbeing, but often we don’t truly listen to one another in our fast paced and technology centered society. Mutual, effective, and empathetic listening helps people to be more supportive friends, family members, and coworkers, but also helps to strengthen the broader community. When we compassionately listen to each other without judgement or comparison, we are able to form community circles of support, and start to dig deep into the root causes of injustices in the world.
In this Lunch + Learn you will take away:
- Skills to become a more effective listener through real time mini exercises
- The positive effects deep listening and attention have on your well-being
- How listening can be used as an equalizer in the community
